According to Spadow, there has not been any confirmed reports from reliable sources and that the hype was the product of mistranslation.
"The closed beta will be be available to Korean users. I read that a lot of people are saying MapleStory 2 will be released worldwide. My sources tell me nothing about this and I have yet to see a source where this is confirmed." - Spadow from reddit
I was the one who posted this PDF: "a worldwide release schedule to be confirmed at a later date."
I did say it was a worldwide release, but I'm not sure. We're all excited for MS2 and any sort of information is nice. But basically we only have one sentence to go on.
So is Spadow a developer now? Last thing knew he was just a normal person that does blogs and is "famous" for doing blogs. So unless he is a developer or that close to Nexon corp in Korea to understand what they are trying to do. What he says is just as factual as what every other person says. News flash just bc someone is "famous" does not necessarily mean they know all of everything in that particular subject. The pdf clearly states it's going be a worldwide release or at least they are thinking about doing so. Everything is subject to change though and that was made a year ago. So can they change there minds and decide not do a worldwide release? Ofcourse it's there game and everything is subject to change. Nothing is set in stone until official release or more announcements closer to the current date. So again I ask you do not take spadows word as a 100% truth. If he says the MS1 is going to shut down tmw. Will you believe him? The point is as of right now going by the PR team located in there national HQ in japan it's going to be a worldwide release. Things can subject to change though. Nothing in that file is a mistranslated. Basically we need to wait and see for another announcement or for official release. Not sure why you are trying to make that pdf as a false statement. If for some reason that is indeed true and it does come out worldwide? Then how are you going to explain yourself to everyone that you are telling a lie right now?
@Virus if you are going by this post on reddit Then let me tell you those posts he made was 5-6 months ago. Way before that pdf file WatchGintama has posted. Once again stop believing people like Spadow for official sources since he is no one special besides a blogger/youtuber that is "famous". The pdf file is directly from the PR team. That's official notice already. What more do you want?
Please do not take my posts as a way of saying you're wrong or flame bait. Even though it may seem like I am being rude I am just being blunt here. The pdf file was made a year ago before alpha test was even out I believe. Like I already said everything is subject to change still and if things do not fall through as planned. Then we can't say it's wrong since it clearly states they are aiming for that. Not to mention plenty of mmos out there already are doing worldwide release games. FFXIV, WoW, and ESO to name a few have worldwise release or world merge servers. It isn't impossible to do due to technology. It all depends on if the developers want to do it or not.
@Omniscient1 I'm actually feeling your post in a mad way, haha
Spadow is actually good gathering information, i'm not saying he's right or wrong, because is true, he's like any other guy sharing information. But for sure they're going to make GMS2, not doing so would freaking shake the earth D: since not only this forum but lots of people wants this game in Global. Also I would think that if they were to release it only on Korea, then they would let us know with anticipation. We'll see anyway.
You're making the same case you did in this post: Maplestory2
Clearly not understanding what we went over in that thread, I'll be blunt just like you- you're not bringing anything useful to the discussion. You're just saying *maybe you're wrong* to everyone that brings up an idea you don't like. The fact is nobody here knows if the game will be released worldwide, but I'd sure take Spadow's word before anything you have to say.
I think it's kind of a given that an English version is on the horizon, if for no other reason than sheer numbers. That is, the population of the US (over 300m) vs SK (around 50m). If you're going to invest all that time and money developing of course you're going to want to maximize your (financial) return, and how best to do that other than localizing it for an English-speaking audience. Whether it's been officially confirmed is irrelevant, it will come out in English, I have no doubts.
@Captain, according to the CEO of Nexon, their biggest customers are Japan, China, and Korea. They have been trying to spread their games in the West, the most popular being Maplestory. However, perhaps because of the American culture, Americans are simply not as into MMOs as those countries. It isn't like they haven't tried to, you know. They have Karma Koins at pretty much every gas station in America.
also, @omniscient1 why does it feel like you're angry at me for the obvious truth that nothing's been confirmed as if I was the one responsible?
I am not angry at anyone. It's more like I am irritated bc what is obvious you guys don't see. If someone says the sky is blue you can not mis translate that to mean it's yellow instead. The pdf file posted was directly from the PR team and it clearly states a worldwide release date will be stated at a later date. If that isn't obvious then I don't know what is. I am sure if the CEO stated himself that it's going be a worldwide release that you will find a way to say no it's not going to be and that's a lie. For some reason it seems you don't want this to be a worldwide release, and you're trying your hardest to prove something official wrong. If that's not the case then why are you trying so hard? Just let it be and if for some reason it does not turn out to be a worldwide release then that's that.
Spadow is honestly no one that knows more information than anyone else. Sure he is closer to the developers than us by being in Korea? Correct me if I am wrong if he's not from Korea, but he just a "famous" blogger/youtuber out there. Just like everyone else is. He does not posses special powers just because he is well known person. Secondly, that reddit was posted a half of a year ago. Way before that pdf file was even found. What Spadow was going by was the Siloconera announcement. Which was true that wasn't concrete enough nor an official notice. However, the pdf file backs that statement up with proof bc that pdf file is directly from there PR team. This is something Spadow did not notice then.
Lastly, i never said that it is a definite worldwide release game. I merely stated that according to the PR team they were thinking about releasing it worldwide. Back way before Alpha even started. Everything is subject to change though and if they decide to hold CBT for a year or more or decide to not release it worldwide then they can do so. As of now though they are thinking about it. That does not mean it will be or it won't be. That just means they are trying to. Believe what you wish but I just don't understand why people are trying so hard to make an official statement as a false statement.
Like I said if the game does turn to be worldwide then what are you going to say? You are making facts right now that it's NOT going to be worldwide and if does then won't that be a bit silly? At least I am going by the official statement as of what it says. So if it turns out wrong that does not mean I was wrong. That just means that they decided not or they couldn't go through with it. Again if someone says the sky is blue you can not try to prove that wrong bc that's already an official fact. Anyways this is a silly argument and I already stated what I wanted to say. If you guys still don't believe that it's going to be worldwide then I guess that's all you,but just remember if it does end up being worldwide released you will need to eat your words.
Finally someone said it. Omniscient1 is 100% right in this situation,
What you guys are missing is a very simple key word: "schedule". The document stated, "a worldwide release schedule to be confirmed at a later date." Here "schedule" is the subject of the sentence, and"release" indicates that we are talking about some sort of schedule for a release. Worldwide is an adjective describing the schedule, not the release. Therefore, the release schedule is going to include dates worldwide, but that does NOT mean that the release is going to be simultaneous everywhere.
The way some people are reading this is not so much a "mis-translation" issue as it is misinterpretation. I don't know how the sentence would have sounded in Korean; I'll admit that in English there is room to interpret it either way, but the most grammatically accurate way to interpret it is that "worldwide" describes the "schedule", so let's not jump to conclusions and assume it's talking about the release.
I don't know why they would use the word "Schedule" in the first place unless it had different dates for different releases. If it was a worldwide release in which every region was released at the same time, it would seem that they should use the term "Worldwide release date" as opposed to the "worldwide release schedule."
At the end of the day though, only Nexon knows what the plan is for certain. I would personally love a worldwide release. It's a shame we have to wait what feels like an eternity for it to be released!
One thing that I find incredibly stupid is the people who are talking about whether or not it will be released in North America, hence "GMS". That is probably one of the dumbest assumptions I have yet to see here. There is no doubt what-so-ever that Maple Story 2 will be released in North America. Just having to say this makes me feel stupid. Please, if you're going to say stupid things like that, please don't come to this forum.
I get that you guys are excited and fired up and want to fight to believe that a world wide release is still happening but lets face it, it isnt. The game is about to go live in Open Beta in Korea and we still havnt heard a word from Nexon NA. Youre getting so caught up on one sentence from a partnership business PDF lol. The CEO even says in the news interview that they are looking to expand MS2 to the West (NA) late this year. Dont be suprized if we are waiting until December to get access to the game here; because we 100% are for sure not getting Open Beta at the same time as Korea in the upcoming months. Arguing that the game is about to be released here in NA is only going to set you up for disappointment.
I just hope they don't do EMS, bcuz the hype will just die. EMS get's updates way late and not enough players to enjoy the game with =[
You do know open beta does not mean official release right? Not exactly sure why you are bringing up Open beta with official release since they never said that Open beta will be world wide release. They were talking about the official release date. For all we can know is that they will do more CBT (since they still haven't tested out the other classes yet) and OBT all way the through late this year. Then worldwide release it around December. Why are you assuming that they are going to jump into OBT so soon and why do you assume that OBT will end shortly? We can not make any assumptions whats so ever but by going what the pdf states. Directly from there PR team which means an official source. That they are thinking about a world wide release once the game officially is completed. That was posted last year however and things could have changed. So really nothing is fact until a new notice is made. No one can say that it's 100% not going to be worldwide just bc they are closing in on OBT. OBT=/=Official release date.
@PandaTeemo but we have heard from NA Nexon. The CEO nonetheless.
Also, I believe the "don't spend a penny on a free game" culture is what is ruining their sales here in the NA. There are so many people who swear by this and I just don't get it. I try to make the analogy of eating a free dish. Wouldn't you still tip the waitress, bus boy, and chef if your meals tasted great and you received great service? Free to play gets such a bad wrap but it is such an ingenious business. People get to try the product for free and only pay if they want to and if they like the product! Could you imagine if everything were like that?
