omg this cant be true why nexon t-t
What am I to do until then
Its gonna be a long year, and lots of videos from Koreans
Saw this coming
Read through the entire financial report, don't see anything saying MS2 is planned for second half of 2015... Maybe i'm blind, can someone point it out to me? The only thing on MS2 in there is that it's listed in the "2015 and onwards" section.
ah okay, well crap
Interestingly, I don't see mention of the new MS1 mobile version for USA/EU either. It definitely seems that it's not a market they will experiment with any new product on. I'd agree that 2016 would be the earliest to see a world-wide release, and probably not until later in the year.
Nexon says that the NA market is growing and they will try to accelerate the incoming games in this year!
I'm here just throwing money at my screen
They changed the PDF to 2015 instead of 2h 2015 and onwards..
@Matahary they say the NA market is growing, but it's currently only 4%, and EU is shrinking from 3%. It would make little sense to make an English version before something like a Japanese version, but maybe it's possible they might at least have something that isn't so tightly region locked.
Also, the games they mention for NA are only published by Nexon, not made in-house by them, so the titles they are talking about for incoming games this year are:
DomiNations, Legion of Heroes, and the TBA titles by Boss Key Productions, Shiver Entertainment, and Turbo Studios.
@Voxov Pretty sure GMS came out after KMS for MS1. The others came out shortly after
That being said maybe you are a new player to Nexon games or something? So it would make little to no sense that they would switch things around here if they did not for MS1. Lastly NA is Korea 2nd biggest market. So why would they not get this title soon as possible. Even if no worldwide release the game is still not going take years to get over here. It will most likely be here by Spring of 2016 at the very latest. Giving that the correct timeline is what is posted above by the thread starter.
I'm pretty sure this game is going to be a worldwide release and all the patches will go in harmony. Think about pokemon, they've been doing worldwide since X/Y. Since maplestory 2 is a 2015 game, it wouldnt make sense to go with the old school korea-gets-it-first style
@Omniscient1 I'm very new to MS, but I knew Nexon from DFO (R.I.P.). Still, the investor document clearly says that China is their second biggest market (38%), followed by Japan (16%) (4x as big as NA, which is 4%). Why do you say it's NA? (Maybe it used to be when MS1 launched?). Also, while I don't know anything about the original MS1 launch, the follow-up games and content definitely seem to be hitting Korea far in advance, like the current Android full-version of MS1.
@Pulse Pokemon is not really comparable, since it's not a matter of the IP so much as it is a matter of the preparedness of international publishing partners. If Nexon America can get it ready, I'm sure they'd love to have it ASAP, but they are nowhere near so big as Nintendo of America.
@Voxov NA Nexon released Legion of Heroes last year. I know because I was selected for the closed and open beta and even played the full release almost a half a year ago. I still play even today. I think there is confusion about where the money makers for Nexon are. Many people say that NA isn't a very large market for them. I would agree seeing that only a small portion of their games are even available to NA. The NA market doesn't like 2D and most everything that is 2D has failed in the NA Nexon market except for MS1 (Dungeon Fighter was shut down in NA Nexon however Dragon Nest survived even though Korean Nexon sold their version). All the clues point to a huge success for MS2 in the NA market. I'm not talking about the current MS1 players or even the ones who have quit in the past. I am talking about the growth of the overall player base. We are just the poster boys at this point but I think veteran MS players will quickly become the minority in MS2. For example: I have about 4 or 5 friends that I tried to introduce to MS1 but couldn't last more than a couple of days because they wanted a 3D version. These friends currently play WoW, CoD, Halo, Diablo, and PWI.
@DTDTD I agree I think MS2 could do well in North America, especially since Nexon's partnership with Valve seems to be extremely effective in promoting awareness of their games (there are so many games out there, good and bad, I haven't heard of!). I think the initial success will honestly be significantly impacted at this point by public awareness and good marketing. Steam will be a huge boost for them, and hopefully sites like this one can help as well.
Also, for the Legion of Heroes, you make a good point, so I can only guess that what they meant is that it is leaving Open Beta and getting officially launched for iOS... which is actually an incredibly small announcement. (It's on pg. 26).
They already made crap-ton of stuff though, so translation may take them quite a while.
I'm SURE that it will come out one day !
@JinxyCostarZ Times have changed. This isn't early 2000s anymore. It won't take years for it to come over to NA unless they purposely delay it for w/e reason. At the most If no worldwide release happens. Then I would assume the latest we will get it is spring of 2016 but would most likely come out even sooner depending on when the exact official release date for Korea comes out. Basically we just need to patient and wait for it to come out in Korea first. By then they will give more information about any other release dates or worldwide release info if there is one still.
Why so long Tried to play Maplestory today and I it was just too crap now
@gevergiz We don't really have enough info to guess why it will take so long but consider the following:
1- Closed beta was still missing some really key content (3 classes, party quests, prison system, etc...), as well as having quite a low level cap. It's possible that they are really racing now even to make the Korean deadline, since content is still being added and finalized. Also, they apparently got 7,000 reports from Closed Beta Testers of possible issues to assess.
2- Player content management. In Korea, accounts are linked to a player's actual permanent phone number and address (usually a Korean ID now, which Korean Social Security Number is needed for). It's extremely easy to trace a Korean account, so issues of accountability (inappropriate statements, content, and hacking) aren't such an issue. For a world-wide release of a game that allows so much player uploaded content, they will need a -very dedicated- team of people to check the content, making sure it is not obviously offensive or inappropriate for a number of cultures. This is a really huge consideration for them when making such a game as a world-wide release.
3- As a final possibility, it could be publishing considerations. If they do have a world-wide release, they need to decide where and who will manage it (will it be Nexon America, or still Nexon Korea? Maybe some combination?) Normally, this isn't as big a decision, but as their new flagship title, this will matter a lot to them, especially since their stock went down a bit, and they are really expecting and depending a bit on this title to do well.
Wtf, NO? That's so incredbly ignorant of nexon, what a mean and selfish lover >(
='( Well, hopefully all of that time will be put to good use. And with any luck, the NA release will follow right on the heels of the Korean one.
They just have to release it in NA at least before this year ends. This game was announced at the end of 2013 for korea come on now..
@Pulse Consider the word you're using; "release". This document is talking about full game releases. It's very possible there will be a closed alpha, beta or maybe even open beta worldwide for 2015. However, it will be very unlikely that it will be considered officially "released" by Nexon until 2016.
We will have to see what they do for Open Beta for Korean MS2, and can then predict similarly for the international version. I wouldn't give up hope until we have more information.
Oh come on I can't wait until 2016! I need in America this year, at least Summer-fall would be nice.
If you need any help, I can try answering any questions you have. Just give me a shout =]
